La John F. Kennedy Library Foundation ha lanciato una raccolta fondi su GoFundMe per preservare il Victura, iconica barca a vela in legno del presidente assassinato. L’obiettivo è di raccogliere 25.000 dollari entro il 19 aprile.

Acquistata dalla famiglia Kennedy quando lui aveva 15 anni, da maggio a novembre è in mostra all’esterno del John F. Kennedy Library and Museum di Boston, ed essendo sottoposta costantemente agli agenti atmosferici necessita ogni anno ha bisogno di oltre cento ore di lavoro.

“Il presidente Kennedy amava il mare”, ha detto Steven Rothstein, direttore esecutivo della Fondazione. “Dalle estati spese nelle acque al largo di Cape, al suo servizio in Marina, e anche nell’Ufficio Ovale, dove ha disegnato le barche a vela durante le riunioni, l’amore del presidente per il mare può essere visto in ogni fase della sua vita”

Il Victura, un 25 piedi in legno, è stato progettato e costruito da Crosby Yacht Yard a Cape Cod.

DALLAS — The Star Class Sailboat, Flash II, owned and raced by John F. Kennedy between 1934 and 1940, is getting ready to cross the auction block in Texas. The boat was raced by JFK and his older brother Joseph P. Kennedy — also part-owner of the craft — in the Nantucket Sound Star Fleet, but was also used frequently by the brothers for pleasure sailing. It will be sold as part of Heritage Auctions’ May 18, 2015 Americana & Political Grand Format Auction.

The boat, registered as #721 by the International Star Class Yacht Racing Association, is 22+ feet long, with a 30+ foot tall mast, fully conforming to Star Class standards.
