Rescue Kites in dotazione ai Volvo Ocean 65
E’ una notizia che sta rimbalzando oggi su diversi siti di vela, meno che su quello ufficiale della Volvo Ocean Race, che in genere non perde occasione per comunicare novità, sopratutto se di tale portata. Fatto sta che non essendo oggi il primo di aprile tendo a prenderla per buona. Parrebbe che in questa edizione i Volvo Ocean 65 siano dotati di GHQ (Get Home Quicker) Rescue Kites.
Parrebbe anche che la soluzione sia stata studiata in collaborazione con i Lloyd, in quanto in grado di aumentare il grado di sicurezza e minimizzare le potenziali perdite.
Il kite è stato scelto perché rispetto alla classica randa di cappa su armo di fortuna consente di raggiungere un porto sicuro più velocemente ed è più efficace in caso di perdita della chiglia.

As the designer and manufacture partner in the QXI International run of ‘GHQ Rescue Kite’, Simone and ASV together with Joey Pasquale have worked for several months to provide the VO65 fleet with a rescue kite system that can be deployed in case of emergency (loss of mast or loss of control of swing keel), improving safety for the teams involved in one of toughest and greatest races in the world, and a way to ‘Get Home Quicker’.
